Photoshop CS can almost be considered three programs, Adobe Camera RAW, File Browser, and Photoshop itself (four, if you want to be pedantic and include ImageReady!)

Well, that can be exactly the problem... I tried to set up and even saved a Worskpace as to include the File Browser at start up, and it took me a few attempts to confirm there is no way the FB can coexist with intensive activity related to file manipulation and tweaking, and this becomes almost independent of the RAM allocation and the usage of additional drives to assign scratch disks etc.

Probably Adobe would make us all a favor by splitting it and making the FB a totally independent application that can be called up from the PS menu, just as Image Ready can be invoked and closed at will. Some common resources get involved which somehow slows down the whole thing. Actually, the only few crashes I have had in PSCS have occurred while browsing folders with very large number of files.

iView makes the browsing in combo with PS a fine alternative, and although there are not all of the options provided by the FB, they coexist rather nicely.

The healing tool will still work faster in PS 7 regardless of OS, because in even in OS9 many PS features still perform better than in OSX.
