So, with the imminent arrival of a 16mp+ SLR, where now for medium format?
Even higher pixel count but still with a larger pixel size than DSLRs
But, the reason I ask is that in discussion with a few people recently, the
consensus was that most of the work they produced - some suggested 90%+ -
rarely ended up bigger than A5.
It still didn't stop my market insisting on 5X4 for such applications.
If that is the case, with the current pace of development in the digital SLR
market, for how long more will people consider it worth their while spending
the price of a decent car on a Hasselblad/Phase One type set-up when they
can have the lot in one body for considerably less?
They are still a world apart, they are two completely different tools for two different jobs / requirements. You DO get what you pay for. Dont forget the current pace of development is also being applied to MF backs. As good as the top DSLR's are, they are still no match for MF backs in the quality stakes.
Will we soon have a situation where there is 5x4/10x8 at one end and digital
SLRs at the other?
Nope, we currently DSLR's at one end and MF Multishot, Single shot & Scanning backs on the other. 5 X 4 & 10 X 8 have been surpassed quite a while ago, in fact you're welcome to offer me a price on my Sinars and fridge full of film !
Is medium format in danger of being caught between a rock and a hard place?
Nope
I think it may be. Anyone agree
Definitely not !
Regards,
Barry
