No you simply open color settings to update the profile cache - not so on PC's. Photoshop loads all profiles while starting up. On mac, if you add a profile to the Profiles folder, the cache will be updated by opening Color settings, Image > Mode > Convert or View > Proof Setup > Custom (I can't remember whether Image > Mode > assign profile updates the list as well). On a PC you have to reboot Photoshop to update the cache.
