Good evening, Mr. S. :)

I have the general idea that Leland's product is more intended as a
framework for custom VFP development and is not positioned to compete
head-on with Intuit's product line. Note that I am trying to minimize my
involvement with this type of customer (very small business with shallow
pockets) in terms of training and support. Basically, I just want to get
him started and then let him deal with vendors for training and support.
For this side work, I guess I'll take what I can get, but I'd prefer
teaching as the best other-than-coding thing to do.

Leland, if you think this guy's small restaurant is a good match for
your offer, and you can match the features Intuit can deliver (e.g. POS
may be down the road), please let me know and I'll be happy to include
your pitch in my presentation to him this Sunday.

He has said 'no wireless', and I was tempted to argue the point, but I
will take your word for it. Personally, I've used 'g' wireless for my
portable, and it's not bad with line-of-sight to the router, which he
would have. However, I can see where adding feeds can overload the link,
and also the possibility of electrical interference. We'll go with
wires.

I was thinking to wire the equipment through a router. The cameras I'm
looking at support 10/100mps Ethernet (RJ45) connections, as shown here:

With the config looking like this:

> For Inventory - SM already has it built in.

As I mentioned, I think he should wait on this one. Let him get used to
the "first wave" of technology and then talk about inventory.

I've got his database needs covered with a beta of own product, which
does handle his requirements (it's just not ready to go against Pitney
Bowes and Group 1 ... yet!).

Yeah, the inventory part is where he's going to have to re-think some
business processes. For now, I'd just like to see him get on board with
some basic functions, e.g. being able to go back into videos of the cash
register is something he really wants the ability to do.

> Good Luck !

I've always felt that no project is too big, just so long as it's broken
into reasonably sized pieces - and it's financed!
