Bingo. I cannot imagine the Dems would have behaved differently if 9/11 had happened while they had power. Both sides are enamored of the fixed idea of the "global economy" and that's the aspect of the WoT that I don't especially like. I think they really are trying to do more than just snuff out the whack jobs and liberate oppressed peoples, and that "something more" is making the world safe for free trade. Given that neo-liberals and neo-conservatives differenly only by degree and not by kind on that issue, I am surprised when some people think things would have been so different had Algore gotten in. In truth, he's only gone off the deep end of the pool since losing the election, and his lust for power and ego drive him to embrace the whacky positions he's taking now.
