Notwithstanding the other comments previously presented in this thread, I would
personally like to take credit for the recent decrease in OT postings since I
started posting again about a month ago. Some naysayers may claim it is
coincidence, and perhaps it is, but what if it isn't coincidence? What if it
really is my way with a phrase or other imbecilic responses that are turning
people off to responding and thus lowering the number of OT posts.

Am I crazy? Do people actually read what I write? Of those who read it, how
many actually understand? And of those who understand, how many can respond in
kind. Very few, I am afraid. And the number will decrease to even lower
levels as our societal patterns and practices continue to dumb us down.

What never ceases to amaze me is how incredibly stupid and naïve we are (well,
not Whil or Ed). We are part of a profession that, for the last 75 years, has
committed itself to its elimination. Who needs programmers (people with
specific technical knowledge) was the battle cry when I started. And every
five years or so, someone comes along with the "best way to do things" that
have actually been used in the past but the newbies never really studied the
history of real-world computing.

Finally, I would like to take this opportunity to extend my best wishes to all
of you for a happy and healthy new fiscal year, should you subscribe to such a
calendar. And for those of you who do not, what the heck, happy August to you.
