This reminds me of the old saying about IBM's coders; They believe that
if it takes 9 months for one woman to make a baby it would only take a
month if they use 9 women. In this case they take engineers who don't
know shit about the real world 16 weeks of intensive coding training.
Big whoop.
I remember once working with a brilliant kid who had a Masters Degree in
Computer Science from MIT and didn't know what a punched card was until
we showed him.
I believe there's more to programming than just coding or "software
engineering". There certainly is when I do what I do. (or was, I'm
retired)...
I also supplied decades of knowledge about many different businesses and
business processes. I have in depth knowledge of how real people do
their work. I know how people interact with computers, people of all
skill levels not just "experts". I can suggest ideas to make a computer
solution more useful in the REAL world than any wet-behind-the-ears
coder/engineer can.
I can tailor user interfaces to help people do their work rather than
hinder them (as most "software engineers" seem to do. I've had to deal
with some of the most
GOD-AWFUL UI's in my time -- including windoze, done by "brilliant"
engineers....
I chuckle when I hear drivel like "16 weeks" to a good programmer. They
probably know more about "software engineering and coding" than I do but
are they as valuable a resource?
I doubt it.

I don't think so - read some of the comments on the link:
these people are the best engineering graduates from top Indian Univerities
- add 16 weeks of 6x12 programming bootcamp and you'll get someone who's a
lot more expert than this old hack (40 years experience - well OK 5 years
experience 8 times <s>).
