I've been arguing that exact point for a long time.
Unfortunately the headhunters care if you're going that route for a contract
gig.

However, if you can actually meet the owner (not a large corporation) and
you can fix their problems, then you're exactly right.

After leaving college, I claimed about a dozen languages I had
"learned" during college. While that might get you a lead from a
headhunter looking to match skills to job listings, that's really not
what most of us sell. It's solving problems by making the computer do
what you want. The language? Who cares?
