Yes, MythTV will work with a cable box, too, although there are a lot
of different kinds of cable, and a variety of cards available, too. I
have a Hauppage PCR-150mce and analog cable here, and I'm using it
straight off the cable, without an intervening box.

Analog cable?  How quaint :-)

My cable provider still broadcasts the main terrestial UK channels +
some others over analogue, even though everything is digital.  I guess
they have a few analogue customers somewhere.  Handy for me as I have
a splitter that splits the signal between my cable modem and analogue
TV card.  Means I get a nice clean TV signal.

AFAIK digital cable is not possible to decode without the right
encryption smart card thingy.  Which is a shame as it's a mpeg2
stream.
