In addition to the recreating indexes, would it also return the long field
names so the dbc would validate properly?

We justified it by calculating how much time I spent on doing database
updates to the main system and any offline versions.  Your rate of pay for
the time and the software pays for itself in no time at all.  It is so easy
to add fields/tables to the live system I wouldn't be without it.  It comes
with a few nice utilities like reindex that you can just 
put on a menu item.   If the system dropped a few indexes the reindex 
has the metadata to recreate them.
