That's old news from MySQL AB, a company long gone. SUN bought them, and
Oracle, sadly, bought SUN.

So, use MariaDB instead. It has all the same core bits, without the ugly
Oracle trademarks everywhere, and it's a lot more open about its updates
and its process.

WordPress, at its core, is the blogging platform, but it is highly
extensible, with themes frameworks and plugins, all of which have their own
particular meanings, as with any big project. It's more of a content
management system than a simple blog, but it's not a document management
system. There are add-ons suitable for eCommerce, and many, many
specialized applications. Sturgeon's Law does apply, just as it does with
add-ons to VFP or any other package. A good knowledge of database, SQL, PHP
and LAMP is of great benefit in getting the most out of the system. Some of
the biggest websites use it, customized with their own themes for layout
and appearance.
