Hi Ted, I was initially *seduced* by the light weight and slightly longer battery life of the Macbook Air. But, at the urging of Dave Crozier, I really thought about the limitations of the Macbook Air including a max 8 Gb RAM vs. 16 Gb RAM, a dual vs. quad core, a 13 vs. 15" display and, at the time, the lack of a Retina display. The tradeoff was about an additional pound in weight, an additional 2" in size, and about 2 hours less battery time. Note: The new Macbook Air's have a Retina display but this wouldn't change my mind. Having used both the Air (without Retina) and Pro, I can confirm the tradeoffs in choosing the Pro were well worth it for me. I ended up choosing a 15" Macbook Pro with 16 Gb and 512 Gb SSD. I spent more money than I expected (about $2500), but when I priced out similar Windows devices, I didn't think the premium was too big and since I'm on my workstation up to 16 hours/day, I felt that any improvement in my productivity and quality of life were worth the additional cost. Let me confirm, in caps, THE QUALITY OF LIFE improvements have been wonderful and worth every penny. Everything else has been a bonus.
