Appreciate that. Last time I used this stuff was back in the days of SCO Xenix. Took some system support job interviews last year and failed miserably as I couldn't remember the commands. So I figure the best way to learn is like I did with the php/mysql/wordpress environment and jump in on a linux only box so that I will be forced to learn it.

Even in the case you have a problem with Ubuntu, you can reinstall Ubuntu, reinstall VirtualBox and run your existing VM. Just be sure that when installing Linux select the manual configuration of partitions, select 30 or 40 GB for the system ("/" is root) and the rest for data and configuration (mapped as "/home" partition) About Source Control tool, I recommend to stay away from SVN and prefer GIT, or you can use PlasticSCM <http://www.plasticscm.com/>, that is free DVCS for teams up to 15 people, very visual and with multi-platform support. I'm already using it with FoxPro, but it's for any programming language, and have a very good documentation on his site <http://www.plasticscm.com/documentation.html>. For a small guide on how to start with the workflow, you can read what I've wrote at VFPx <https://vfpx.codeplex.com/wikipage?title=Using FoxBin2Prg with PlasticSCM> (it's for VFP, but can apply most concepts on other PlasticSCM> languages) Best regards! 2014-09-23 21:41 GMT+02:00 Virgil Bierschwale <[email protected]>: > Decided to make the plunge. > > What I'm looking for is a way to mimic my environment on my web host > so that I can make changes and test here in my office and then ftp the > changed files to my host. > > > > Going to try the Ubuntu Install and then the Xaamp Linux install route. > > > > Anything I need to know, and also, I'm interested in subversion or some > type > of source control as well and I've never used it, so any hints are > appreciated as I will be making numerous drill downs, and charts on the > project that I started last month. > > > > Thanks, > > > > Virgil Bierschwale > > Keep America At Work > > www.KeepAmericaAtWork.com > > > > > > --- StripMime Report -- processed MIME parts --- > multipart/alternative > text/plain (text body -- kept) > text/html > --- > [excessive quoting removed by server] _______________________________________________ Post Messages to: [email protected] Subscription Maintenance: http://mail.leafe.com/mailman/listinfo/profox OT-free version of this list: http://mail.leafe.com/mailman/listinfo/profoxtech Searchable Archive: http://leafe.com/archives/search/profox This message: http://leafe.com/archives/byMID/profox/[email protected] ** All postings, unless explicitly stated otherwise, are the opinions of the author, and do not constitute legal or medical advice.
