Kurt,
A couple of possible things. Firstly with it being a 2003 file then the xml
docx format wasn't in use unless you have added the Microsoft Compatibility
kit. The docx format may have become corrupted in some way so try copying it
and rename the copy as a .doc then try re-opening it.

If this fails then open it with a goof hex editor and you should be able to
pull at least the text area of the document. In addition you can try renaming
the copy to .rtf and open it in "M$ Wordpad" again it may not be perfect but
you should be able to recover the important text as long as you remember to
turn wordwrap off.

Subject: [NF] Help w/a Corrupted Word File

OK - am trying this again. I posted last night from home - but, message did NOT
appear - even by this morning. And, I even checked the Archive just now - and
it's not there. So - here goes...

The daughter of my buddy has a homework assignment report she was writing up in
Word. I believe it's like 2003 version. She tried to open the Doc last night -
and its corrupted. Since the Doc has a docx extension - I figured that it's
really XML based - and thought I could load it up in IE - since I know that IE
can open XML type files. But, alas - that failed.

And, the poor girl is practically Begging for help. So - any input from you
folks would be Greatly appreciated.

Regards,
