Bearing in mind that this is on your POC laptop and we can always
blame the beer, perhaps you could offer some more info:

- OS?
- Hardware?
- Disk space? Free? Last time you tested the disk? Defragged?
- Version of TB?
- Have you checked the Thunderbird support site?
- What have you tried?
- How is it configured? What kind of email account(s)? POP/IMAP?
- Do you have access to the email account through a web interface?
Does the sent folder show there?
- Anything else you might think is useful (like compacting!)

If I were you, I would NOT try compacting your folders while you're on
a train with unreliable power and a bad battery! That's just asking
for trouble. You're a lot more likely to have success if you:

- Make a COMPLETE BACKUP of T-bird and it's storage folders before beginning
- Expect the compacting to take ALL WEEKEND
- Start the machine off, and LEAVE IT ALONE

Imagine the worlds slowest PACK. That's about what you're witnessing.

OTOH, if you feel like hacking a bit, T-bird stores in SQLite3 tables,
iirc, and you can have all sorts of fun poking around in there. DDid I
mention MAKE A BACKUP FIRST?
