Well - I tried running my own KickStarter project end of last year. But, in my
case - it was a failure - mostly due to my "marketing" methods & not really
reaching the right audience.

In the 3D Printing forum I am on - there are Constant discussions of failed
KickStarters based around 3D Printing, or related campaigns - like this
Filament extruder where you can supposedly recycle plastic to make your own
filament for your 3DP. After the fools got funded - now its excuses after
excuses why they can't deliver on time. Worse though - the Idiots are going
around to Expo & Shows - like the Maker Faire this past weekend - attempting to
show off their stuff. And, that money spent going to shows would have been
Better spent on delivering their product. The dude actually came over to this
booth - of a competing product - of which I am friends with this guy. And,
that's when I got to hear all the BS stories - which keep getting better. Now
claiming that his extruder was ruined by Customs in trying to come to the USA
from Canada! Duh!

I just tried going to the link for this Magicstick - and it seems I'm being
blocked from the site from here at work. Oh well...

By clicking past the Features pictures, I found that this is an IndieGoGo
promotion - you are pre-ordering a device to be built some time in the future
by a startup company - your prepaid order is a form of startup funding for the
company.

This is fine, so long as you know what you’re ‘buying’. Everything may go just
fine. Or the company may never reach the required funding, may not have enough
money to go into production, may run months or years late to production, or may
just vanish. If they do reach production, I’d be surprised if there were no
problems with the initial units.

And I think Ted has some good points as well.
