Matthew: I support several applications with major companies. I've been
analyzing what is best for me for almost a year now. Most of my apps are
currently in VFP7. In the short term I am moving my apps to VFP9 using the
VMP framework. My long term plan is to learn Python and use the Dabo
framework for my applications. I have already started writing small
applications in Python and I really enjoy it! The learning curve for me is
relatively short compared with the alternatives.
The reason for Python is that it is easier to do almost anything than other
languages out there, there isn't hardly anything you can't do with it (see
IronPython for example), there are numerous ready-to-use frameworks you can
use instead of writing them, there are numerous books on Python and many of
the frameworks, and the community is huge with great support.
That's *my* plan anyway and I have been sticking to it for some time now.
This was posted on ProFox today and is worth repeating:

Damn straight. I looked at other tools that were out there, but
after years of developing in VFP, nothing even came close. I want to make
developing in Dabo as simple and as powerful as developing in VFP; nothing
less will do.
