I almost forgot to add, Vista is
noticeably slower than XP on the HP laptop. God only knows what kind of
progress that is supposed to be.

The next thing M$ will release is a update patch that will supposedly fix a
problem with their "anonymous" user information reporting service that runs
completely hidden in the background that reports to M$ every day about what you
are doing on your computer and that the problem with the service was that in one
instance, which they call a pandemic breakout the service ran in the foreground
and allowed the user to see what was going in. Luckily the user was not present
when it was visible.

Subject: RE: [NF]was Dell once again offers Windows XP - Vista upgrade

I just clean installed Vista on my old HP ZD7000 laptop, 1.5GB RAM, 64MB
Video, 2 1400X900 monitors, and 3GHz Pentium. Likewise I turned off all the
pretty video stuff (went to control panel and set video for best
performance). I also installed Office 2007. Networking went very smooth
with the only glitch a little extra effort in Local Security Policies to
connect with a Linux server running Samba.

The machine is for my teenage daughter so if it's a pain --- well she can be
one too so it's payback time ;) Actually, it seems to be working fairly
well once I went to HP on the web and downloaded the XP video driver.

I know Vista is inevitable because of my line of business so after learning
from this install I'm getting a second HD for my Dell Inspiron 9400 laptop
(which has even slower integrated video). Then I'll try some software
development stuff and see how that works. I almost forgot to add, Vista is
noticeably slower than XP on the HP laptop. God only knows what kind of
progress that is supposed to be.
