Yup, that is it: we get pushed out one way or another and have the  
"Oh, Shoot" moment: gotta eat/feed my family!  You call on folks you  
know. An old colleague calls and asks for help. Your old employer  
needs some, too (if you left on good terms) -- whammo: you are in the  
service business.

The old spiritual tells it right: "You can't always get what you  
want... but if you try some time, you'll find..."
