I don’t really have a choice. It’s a web service because that is the
requirement from those that know better :). And I have tried it with the
sharename as well but it does not see that. I assume its permissions and
maybe I need to change the user IIS runs as when RevertToSelf is called.

Again, it is possible to get this working if you want to play with the
run-as user for the IIS service, but personally I'd re-think the need for
accessing network resources from a web service first...
