Blat rocks. I recently implemented Blat, but the company I'm currently working for doesn't have a SMTP server. I did however remember that Gmail had a SMTP client - smtp.gmail.com - so I investigated that further. The final hurdle to jump was that Gmail requires SSL, and Blat doesn't have an option for that. I found a program called Stunnel (http://www.stunnel.org/), which adds the SSL functionality and it now works perfectly.
