Because this is a community list that grew out of the desire of the
community to share both technical knowledge and other life
experiences. The tech list was set up to satisfy those people who had
content restrictions on their email set by their employer. The [OT]
label has always been a voluntary thing which has worked remarkably
well, with a few noticeable exceptions.
To echo your point, I have never understood why people can't take
responsibility for filtering their email, and instead expect someone
else to do it for them. It really isn't hard to set up a rule in any
modern email client that will redirect mail from particular addresses
to the trash if those authors have demonstrated their unwillingness
to act as part of this community. It's simple to do, and it makes the
overall experience of being a part of this list so much more pleasant.
