It worked pretty good in Spain during the civil war in the anarchist zones. It ended because they lost the war, not because it was not viable. Imagine if you could implement an anarchist system in a little country (though the concept of country is not compatible with anarchism), and imagine it works..... Can you see why the powers that are would be 'very interested' in it's failure? And you should ask yourself, if there was no law to penalize you, would you go out and steal, or kill, or rape? No? So why would you need 'father govt.' to tell you you must not do what you don't wish to do? Theoretically, democracy might be some kind of anarchism in the sense that it is based on a 'supposedly' consensuated social contract. In reality that contract was signed by people who are not alive now, from another epoch. So you might say anarchism is a very fluent and unstructured democracy, where governors don't have a fixed period in power but depend from the governed to stay on top. The R's in the list will certainly love a book by the renowned R Mr.Robert A.Heinlein 'The moon is a harsh mistress', and also 'The Dispossessed' by Ursula K. Le Guin. Both books are simplifications and are inaccurate at times, but give you a taste of what anarchism might be. And speaking of Sci Fi, Mikey, you should certainly read "The gate to women's country" by Sheri S. Tepper, it might show you some other perspectives.
