Err yes,

I used to run a Windows 2K3 server running Twonkymedia
http://www.twonkyvision.de/ but I'm now using Synology DS207s which are NASs
and am running Twonky on them as well. I bought Twonky and have a license for 3
devices so might as well use it, it's better than most of the bundled media
streamers. http://www.synology.com/enu/index.php

I can also recommend Tversity which is a free http://tversity.com/home

I'm running these over Cat6 to DSM-320RD , DSM-520, an Xbox, a Sony NAS-CZ1
(Utter pants don't buy one) and a couple of WiFi radios.

I don't see why you are wanting to add a sound card to the setup, keep it
simple have a backup of your music as it takes ages to rip it from CD's and get
the largest drives you can, I'm running 2* 500GB drives one for music and one
for video with an external mirror for the music (So I can sync between the
servers).

If you've got some old hardware lying around then run a copy of Win XP or even
Win 2K and stick Tversity on it, put on AVG harden the security, set it to
reboot on powerfail and put it in the loft on top of some board on top of some
foam (The sound of a server running updates or indexing in the loft at 3:00 in
the morning is not what you want to hear).

Anything else you'd like to know?

Subject: [NF] Music Server

Has anyone built a music server? A small box with a sound card and a
hard drive in it - no monitor or keyboard - that could be accessed on
the network to feed a stereo system?

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/products/winfamily/windowshomeserver/features.mspx

Someone suggested this, but it would be nice if it was not Windows.
