I'm tending to agree. It's certainly a bold move. Reminds me in a way of
Borland and his breakthrough $99 selling price years ago. 

I don't know if these folks are the first to come up with this
particular approach - don't think I've heard of it being used elsewhere,
but maybe it has.

It would be hard to duplicate, though. At least in my position. I can't
really give away a DOS copy of my product - it was sooo long ago and so
inferior that I really can't in good conscience even consider it. The
current VFP rendition has older versions, but the dynamics (e.g. it does
automatic software updates from the net) are such that it's fluid and
there is no pointing back to a frozen version. Maybe that's just the
nature of database versus video recording products.
