I think such a move would fall into the 'brilliant' category. And it
would be so good for us. 

But we all know by now that MS's intent was never to promote VFP, just
to own it so nobody else could run with it, so the chances of them doing
something like this are slim to nothing.

On the other hand, MS will have to do *something* in a few years. I'm
guessing/hoping they will turn the product over to some entity that will
take the ball and run with it. Then *they* can do this.
