I do like the idea of the smartphone or iPhone, but I feel that I would be
better served by something on a larger scale. Actually I have a Treo 750,
and while it has served me well on a personal level the amount of
information I need to keep track of on a professional level has now grown
significantly. It is more than I'd want to try to juggle in a small
handheld device.

Note-taking IS a key item, I am involved is several key projects and need to
keep my thoughts organized. That is the primary reason a tablet is
appealing to me right now. Obviously scheduling is very important as well.

Programming? That's what the mega-notebook and desktop are for. Not
looking to play games on it either, this is for business purposes.

I could even live with (gulp!) Vista on it of I had to - which may be the
case based on the models I've seen in my preliminary research.

Thanks for the input Ted and Ed - as always you've given me good things to
think about before taking the plunge.

Lou

This is the one that I thought would be problematic: note taking.
One of the big advantages of a tablet PC is the ability to simply
write; you can't even come close to that on an iPhone. Scheduling
events can also be a pain, since there is no provision for making a
copy of an event (although you can set up repeating events).

        These are fine.

$400 bucks + an additional $20/month over an existing AT&T account
(assuming that he already has one)? They ain't cheap.

        That's good!
