It's the most popular precisely because it's a good product and
people can use it for free. Now that they can't, people who don't
want to pay for such a basic utility will find one of the many free
alternatives and switch to that. Only the people for whom the
differences that WinZip offers are important enough to them to pay
the cost will continue to use the product.
