VFP work with c# calls for complex web services are scary to say the least.
Every time something goes right the next bummer turns up.
Having said that its my lack of c# experience thats at fault. But If I have
to learn c# then maybe I wont need VFP any more. Shame. catch 22<<

This is not an all or nothing, exclusive decision Allen. You can use .NET
language based components with VFP with or without Web services. You should
look at the examples in the NET4COM part of Sedna.
No need to wait for the official release. The classes and example code is
VB.NET, but the concepts are what is important, not the actual examples. It
will show you one way to leverage .NET if there is something in .NET you
need to incorporate into your existing or future VFP apps.
