Of course I don't have Vista so I'm not sure what I'd do with that. But with XP and 2000, on my own local computer, I install my programs under "Progs" or something like that (or maybe "games" if I install games). For end users, I don't force the application, or it's data files, to be anywhere specific. They pick where they want them - I inform them what kind of access rights are needed for the different folders. So they can choose. Inside my log file (that the send for troubleshooting) I capture where the application is trying to read/write, etc so I can let them know where to check for access rights problems. If users are tricked into going with Vista's, I'll probably start recommending they use my approach (e.g. make your own folder and go from there). But still, I will not force any particular folder locations. I may continue to have the install "default" to "program files", but maybe I'll start putting up warnings right on the installation screens that Vista might screw some things up if you put stuff there. -Charlie _______________________________________________ Post Messages to: [email protected] Subscription Maintenance: http://leafe.com/mailman/listinfo/profox OT-free version of this list: http://leafe.com/mailman/listinfo/profoxtech Searchable Archive: http://leafe.com/archives/search/profox This message: http://leafe.com/archives/byMID/profox/[EMAIL PROTECTED] ** All postings, unless explicitly stated otherwise, are the opinions of the author, and do not constitute legal or medical advice.
