Hi Adam!

Yes, Sarasota has a huge homeless problem. They want workers, too lazy to lift
a finger themselves, but they can't find it in their hearts to let their
workers live anywhere. The workers either have to commute for miles to less
expensive communities, or they have to sleep in closets, under bridges or
wherever. The city and county prohibit "camping" so anything the worker might
do to solve the problem is against the law.

Since I closed my clinic and retired I have continued to work night security a
few nights a week. The plant I watch has one worker who sleeps in the break
room. I turn the light out every time I pass there on my round so he can rest
better, but he must feel terrible when he wakes up anyway.

I have suggested a number of times that the city put up a tent facility for
people who have nowhere else to go but no one has even acknowledged the
suggestion. Hell, they already have the tents, 30 acres at the fairgrounds
that is never used for anything and all kinds of boy scouts and reservists to
help man the place. They could give the scouts merit badges and the
reservists service credits. A few porta potties and a little wiring and they
could have it up in a week. I think it is inhuman to NOT do it.
