We all have a price. I like to think my price is so high that I can hold
true to my own values. I have had a few offers to "buy my company", but
nobody has ever been able to really get my attention to the point where I
was willing to part with ownership of the technologies I develped. My
biggest concern? an acquiring company taking good care of the clients who
have gottem me to where I am. If I sell all interest and ownership of my
technologies, and the new owner(s) abandon the need of the older clients, I
would be essentially powerless to help them out. These folks have become
friends over the years, and they deserve better treatment than that. That
said, if some person came along with say, $15 million USD, I just may become
enticed enough to let them take the reins and not worry about it. The
reality is nobody would so insane as to offer me anywhere near that amount
for my company. If someone were that insane, I would be just as crazy were
I to not accept the money, making this a game of The Greater Fool where it
would not be I.
