Doesn't SQL Express have table or database size limitations? -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Kevin S. Goff Sent: Sunday, July 06, 2008 4:52 PM To: 'ProFox Email List' Subject: RE: Firebird or MySQL
Just out of curiosity, has anyone in this conversation considered SQL 2005 Express? MySQL is also great, has a trememendous of documentation, but also has a somewhat perplexing dual-license that I felt may potentially put me and/or my clients at risk if we tried to pretend it ought to be free in our particluar environment, and would cost a chunk of change each year per MySQL Server at my client location otherwise. So, I opted to move to PostgreSQL. PostgreSQL is totally free, well established in the RDBMS community, and has trememdous amounts of books and on-line documentation on it. If you are planning to use a Windows Server the book to get is "PostgreSQL For Windows", as the other books all seem to be more related to Linux Servers with brief mentions of Windows (I am running on both Windows and Linux Servers, migrating most Servers to Linux as I am able to). Works GREAT with VFP, fast and chock full of features. It truly can go head-to-head with MySQL, Firebird, Oracle and SQL Server for my purposes - and beyond.
