I buy new vinyl, yes. Sometimes I have the cd and the vinyl, and the
vinyl is much nicer (warmer) to listen to. I record the vinyl into my
digital library, and that is still nicer and warmer to listen to than
the cd is. They do something in the digitizing of cd's that somehow
flattens the listening experience. The fact that I can listen to my
digitized recordings of vinyl and be satisfied tells me it isn't simply
the transfer to digital.

Now, some cd's do sound better than the vinyl. In general, if the
original recording was analog, and they did a competent job transferring
to vinyl, the vinyl will sound better than the cd version. Yes, modern
bands still insist on recording with analog equipment. Wilco comes to
mind.

The thing that annoys people the most with vinyl is the surface noise.
Pops, hisses, skips. But you don't get those if you keep your vinyl
clean and turntable adjusted properly.

I also buy old vinyl if it is in VG+ or higher condition. It is a great
way to have a large music library without shelling out a lot of money,
and there are songs and albums that still haven't been made available on
cd. We knew some things about studio recording in the 50's and 60's that
I feel we've somehow lost, because some of those recordings are truly
amazing to listen to. Perhaps it was the misguided attempt to reduce
noise - I've noticed that I like the low hum I sometimes hear on those.
