My music player PC (Mac dual G4) has a audiophile pci card with line
outs to my amplifier, then to a speaker switch that controls 4 pairs of
stereo speakers on my front porch, living room, office, and tv room.

Actually, that audiophile card makes all the difference in sound
quality. Unfortunately their Mac drivers are so god damned buggy that
every system update from Apple seems to make the computer crash more and
more. I ended up ripping the card out and using the headphone output
jack from the computer - totally unsatisfactory for high quality
listening but it doesn't crash the computer.

When I get more $$$ and time I'm going to build an entertainment system
from scratch with Linux, and a separate system for storing the files
which will live in my basement and have at least 20 terabytes capacity.
I'm only at about 750GB right now, but I want lots of scratch and backup
space, and I may start recording TV and movies.

Paul
