I use FPD2.0 because I have the LCK (Library Construction Kit with the Watcom C compiler). It's wonderful to be able to mix assembler (.asm hope you understand) with Fox : all Fox variables can be used in the assembly code and Fox can drive .asm routines very easily. Using assembler allows me to work with interrupts (drivers (Analog/digital converters, serial protocole, Digital Input/Output, ...), time control, etc), using Fox allows me to have a wonderful human-machine interface : There are not a lot of DOS app that can be driven with a mouse and instead of a large control panel only one CRT is sufficient (all 'screens' must be very simple (users are 'low level') with an explanation and not more than 4 or 5 buttons or lists or comboboxes, ...). All what operators do is logged in a file : a very interested feature when something goes wrong (once a user has seen that I can tell all what he has done (over the past 2 years !) he pays a lot of attention to what he does so safety and efficiency is good).
Using the 'database' (SQL !) allows a lot of improvments and give a lot of 'hidden informations' (for example we can have the 'time response' of each user for each screen so we can see who must be 'teached' more (understandable ?) or who is drunk or .... In fact the only drawback of DOS is LAN : it is difficult to make computers speak to each others when some tasks must be of high priority.
