They're working great and maintenance effort on them is incredibly low. Again, the fact that I purposely avoided doing things the MS recommended way has allowed the VFP 6/7 systems to be insulated from the multitude of crap that MS has broken and pushed out over the years. Heh, I recall a SQL Server DBA calling me a lucky ba.tard as he was wrestling with a couple versions of SQL Server at one time, and trying to migrate things from different Win OS versions. I showed him what I had to do with the VFP databases (aka copy files...) for my "migration" work. LOL. One client is considering upgrading/'porting the version 6 and 7 (and maybe 8) to 9, but that isn't driven by technical reasons. Not being "supported" by MS for a decade has made some PHBs nervous. But most of them realize that "support from MS" doesn't really mean much. They rarely get good support from MS on an actual technical problem. A lot more folks in the IT shop at that client are starting to recognize they don't get much from MS either. So the pressure to stay current with MS isn't as great as it used to be. Anyway, if you build a system on the basic computing principles - and with software code you can actually get your hands on - that does things you can directly verify/control - you end up with a fairly MS-bullet-proof result (good lord, every thing leads to open source doesn't it....). -Charlie _______________________________________________ Post Messages to: [email protected] Subscription Maintenance: http://leafe.com/mailman/listinfo/profox OT-free version of this list: http://leafe.com/mailman/listinfo/profoxtech Searchable Archive: http://leafe.com/archives/search/profox This message: http://leafe.com/archives/byMID/profox/[email protected] ** All postings, unless explicitly stated otherwise, are the opinions of the author, and do not constitute legal or medical advice.
