My experience here at work is that for the transfer of video files and
subsequent writing to a DVD/ CD that laptop or PC specs don't matter much as
it's tied to the capabilities of the USB port ( or in your case, FireWire )
for incoming data, and for the speed of the drive for the writing. Encoding
video is a different animal. If you're encoding or transcoding video files
my suggestion is go for more RAM , minimum 2GB's, if you're going to be
using Pinnacle or the other higher end suites for editing and encoding. I
honestly don't know if any of the software out there has been written to
take advantage of dual core chips yet, but a higher end processor certainly
won't hurt. If you happen to need a really capable, free video format
converter for windows I would suggest the Prism converter,

Subject: [NF] DV Editing laptop recommendations

I'm thinking about replacing my old desktop pc with a new laptop, and I want
to be able to create/edit/burn dvd's from my DV camera.

The camera I have is a few years old (Sony) and has a "Firewire" connection.
Not sure what the newer cameras are using to transfer videos, I see some use
Flashdrives?

Any recommendations as to what laptops can handle this, if any...
