You are starting with the 'specious interpretation' phase of statistics which places like NRA do. Deaths of criminals don't count (in your view) and are therefore conveniently ignored. Suicides are ignored because they 'don't matter' and so on it goes. And even with that invalid statistical interpretation method you still end up with a huge number of accidental deaths - deaths Australia has virtually none of because people don't have (or need) guns.
The NRA stats still seem confusing. As if they are obsfucating the underlying data. 30,000 deaths but 32000 SUICIDES? -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Pete Theisen Sent: Wednesday, 28 January 2009 3:30 PM To: ProFox Email List Subject: Re: [OT] Stupid law of the year goes to congressman Peter King (R) New York Geoff Flight wrote: > Lets assume I was wrong and 30,000 is the correct figure. Criminals getting killed, either by each other, their intended victims or the cops is not a huge social problem in my eyes, the fewer criminals the better. These are about half of the non suicides. Take out the suicides and the crook deaths and you have a bottom 100 statistic. Now if you were to get excited about car accident deaths I would be more impressed. -- Regards, Pete http://pete-theisen.com/ [excessive quoting removed by server] _______________________________________________ Post Messages to: [email protected] Subscription Maintenance: http://leafe.com/mailman/listinfo/profox OT-free version of this list: http://leafe.com/mailman/listinfo/profoxtech Searchable Archive: http://leafe.com/archives/search/profox This message: http://leafe.com/archives/byMID/profox/[email protected] ** All postings, unless explicitly stated otherwise, are the opinions of the author, and do not constitute legal or medical advice.
