We just found that out this morning - heh-heh...  The initial load is what took 
longest.  All appends and edits from now on are just data squirts, so no big 
deal.

Thanks, again, to my colleagues that helped clarify my thinking and direction 
in hatching out a solution.  The processes are working perfectly.

You cannot turn off the Log in SQL Server.

You might try to change the recovery method to simple for the db, but
you might not want to do that for other reasons.
