SaaS = Software as a Service. Could your hybrid do all of it's processing via Web Services? Say check for price of Steel by the pound in a quote system that checks 10 suppliers close to the client location. Or get bids on delivery from at least 10 freight companies? Data could be locally housed in your network but your app could be all in PHP? Or you could use a a mash-up of software vendors that are loosely tied together in the web? Last part would be if you were SAP driven and a lot of the functionality is now SaaS driven where you tweak it to fit your needs. wink wink wink. Citrix tries to fake out the user thinking that it is running locally when it is not. I guess the biggest reason to move towards a SaaS environment is to see dumping your desktop and or laptop computer all together! Handheld computers are ramping up and will only get better. The iPhone is primary example in this arena. So why force everyone to an outdated mind set because you have installers written years ago that make it easy for you the vendor? Will your app allow for people on the move to access what they need? Check sales for a specific customer because they just called and left a voice mail while your on your commute home. I see SaaS as a feature set where flexibility is the most important aspect.
