Apples to oranges. $200 per year is dirt cheap. If you are happy with
the service level, then what's the problem? If you are looking for even
cheaper than $200, you have a high probability of shooting yourself in
the foot.

I pay $1400 per year for a physical box in a datacenter that I have root
access to. I run 3 VM's on the machine and run several websites, 2 DNS
servers, mail server for 3 companies, Subversion and MySQL servers for
several applications, etc. I get guaranteed 10Mbps bandwidth, burstable
to 100Mbps as needed, included in this price.

I feel like that $1400 is dirt cheap, especially since I recover $100
per month from one of my clients for hosting their stuff, and $500 per
year from another customer for letting them have a VM.

I should actually start thinking of moving to the next phase, since I'm
in the black now: getting another colo in a different datacenter
somewhere else in the country to mirror to.

I briefly researched what a similar setup would cost me at Rackspace,
but it seemed too rich for my blood (> $4K per year I think). However if
I had the need for guaranteed uptime, that price would be in line.

My provider (calpop) has very flaky service, although there's always
someone that will answer the phone. I'd say I've been down about 6 hours
per year, sometimes 20 minutes, sometimes 2 hours. Usually comes down to
things like "we found that the switch was unplugged" or "your power cord
fell out".
