I had also planned to move to Dabo using a back end mix of VFP and PostgreSQL. But soon after my focus shifted from providing End User applications to providing processing services. A number of my clients still use (and pay monthly fees for) my VFP7 and VFP9 based apps, and nothing seems to be out there that will displace me - largely due to my very low cost and high measurable results my clients see. But rather than chase down more End Users, or moving my VFP apps that are rock solid and effective into the Dabo/VFP/PostgreSQL world, I have fallen into some commercial processing opportunities where, as Jeff (kind of) says, my clients do not give a rat's ass what the heck I use to get the job done. So I stick with what has worked for years, and still does, in an environment where I get to control the (virtual) hardware, OS platform, configuration, etc. I could move to Python and PostgreSQL, but in my case it makes no sense to do so.
Yeah, Fox is not dead. Maybe it is a little wobbly on its feet with so many folks leaving it, but it still does a great job for me. Gil Gilbert M.
