Oh, and another thing... During install Linux distros *usually* will see your Windows partition and ask you what you want to do with it. You can have the install leave it alone and install Linux on a new partition. That way you have a dual-boot machine (for what it's worth) and access to your files on the Windows machine. Then you can migrate the files over to your Linux bootup at your leisure.
