For the Family Tree program, I kept it simple:
    Key
    Name
    FatherKey
    MotherKey
    SpouseKey
    Birth,Death,Notes, etc.

I look up the Father/Mother/Spouse names only for display.
A 'GetKids' method creates a cursor of the children (i.e., all persons
having FatherKey = Key and MotherKey = SpouseKey), which I display in a 
small grid, with a 'Go' button beside each for navigation.  Starting to 
work pretty well.
