From what I remember, he never actually went to London due to concerns about his family but that might have just been the cover story. I know that he was in the Los Angeles area for some time but I don't know what he accomplished at the restaurants here as I never ate at them. To my thinking, he made a huge error by not gutting it out and actually learning from Ramsay before attempting to open his own restaurant but I wouldn't be surprised if he felt differently about that.
