I had a restaurant client once. The "chef" was/is one heluva cook, and had the right technical training, but as a business person, or even anything like it, he is a complete washout. Daddy wanted him to be Wolfgang Puck, but Sonny has the people skills of an ostrich, and would rather stick his head in a pot than deal with people, whether customers or his own staff. Friction ensued and everybody got caught in the middle, as Sonny would blame everybody for the results of his non-management. A very experienced manager just walked away. Literally. She never showed up for work again. The situation was even worse than it sounds, as his Daddy bought him the restaurant, to "make his dreams come true" (as though it is possible for someone *else* to do that *for* you). Daddy is a very successful man, though in a very "cowboy"-type of business, where fortunes can be gained and lost quickly. He bought it in economic good times, and well, you know what happened then. It is a miracle that the place is still in business. In spite of Daddy's business hitting the tank, he must still be subsidizing it heavily. There is a reason why they call it "Executive Chef" instead of "Darn Good Cook."
