FWIW, I have never had more trouble than when I have done work for
friends. Gratefully, many of my clients have *become* friends, and
that works fine. But when the friendship came first, I, like you, have
tended to let my professional guard down.

In the worst case, I actually did my usual paperwork and had all of
that down pat, but I ignored my "this client and I don't see
eye-to-eye" filter. Lost a friend, project, and respect for a guy whom
I admired deeply.
