Malcolm, I used Photoshop for years - and I recently tried Gimp - but, I had issues with it. Probably because the interface was so different than Photoshop. But, I've also been using a slightly different version of Photoshop - which is MUCH cheaper - call Essentials. If you like PS - but, want something cheaper - yet still has the functionality of PS (although I believe they tend to base it upon older versions of PS) - then you might consider Essentials...
