As a follow-up to Kurt's suggestion to check out Adobe Elements
("Essentials") I did some quick research.

Adobe Elements has a lot of the functionality of Photoshop minus things
like:

- Less lighting and filtering controls
- Limited text formatting (no tracking/kerning), typing along a path,
full justification
- No offset printing with CYMK (not an issue with digital printers?)
- No layer masks, just layer blending
- No batch automation
- No slice for web page feature
- No support for animated GIF files

The only potentially worrisome items on that list are no layers masks
and limited text formatting.

On the positive side, Elements is $59 via Amazon (with $20 rebate). And
it is supposed to have a much simpler, easier to use interface than
Photoshop.

Thanks again for everyone's recommendations.

Malcolm
